Long interval between updates and FILELIST.txt is way out of date
Hello Everyone,
We had our baby girl (Maddison) in December, and as you might imagine I have had to ignore keeping up with the updates on my Slackware-current install on my laptop. The last update was in October 2011 and I have a lot of out of date software. Looking at the Changelogs (most recent) many of my packages are several versions behind. I use Slackpkg to keep up to date and it is not finding the most up to date FILELIST.txt.
Everything is running fine, but I would like to get up to date if I can without a re-install (this same install has been running on this laptop for nearly four years.) Perhaps I just need to get the most up to date FILELIST.txt or maybe Slackpkg is out of date. I am still running kernel 2.6.38.7, but I am wondering if the 3.0 kernel is now part of current. Previous posts about this I found during a search are also pretty old.
Thanks for any advice.
Bob

Yes, I did run Slackpkg update, that's how I would normally update. It gave me a message that said the FILELIST.txt was older than the previous one, and it continued to actually downgrade some packages. I will try another mirror and see if that works.
At a wild guess, have you been using mirrorservice.org? Its Slackware mirror is way out of date (and the whole of mirrorservice.org is horribly neglected, e.g. last "news" dates from 2008). Use slackware.org.uk instead
I don't seem to have one listed that is slackware.org.uk. There are only two listed and they are both the same, one ftp and the other http. What is the full address if you know it so that I can add it.
And this is a good place for us to say "thanks for the bandwidth" to Darren 'Tadgy' Austin, who runs the site. Lots of other good stuff mirrored there, see the top level directory.

Seconded. Thank you Darren.
I also used to use mirrorservice.org, but I gave up on them as they were proving much too unreliable.

Thank you for the info, and thank you to Darren for running the site.
Our first baby was born in November 2005, and our second in December 2009. Those end-of-the-year birthdays sure make the Christmas season interesting.
Regards,
Thank you, Lufbery. We are very proud. It's my wife's first child, and my first daughter (I have three grown sons). You can imagine I was a little taken back when we found out she was on the way. I will be 62 years old in October! Not what I imagined for near-to-reirement years, but she is already the light of my life!
