Unfortunately there is no localized version of the slackbook that I am aware of.

But at least you could visit http://docs.slackware.com/ where the docs are partially localized.

Also, tools to install in several languages and partially localize Slackware 14.1 will be released in a few days. Localizations will be available in French, German, Polish, Portuguese(Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Latin America) and Ukrainian (by the way, if your language is not covered, you can volunteer for it :-), see http://slint.fr and this thread where release will be announced.

Apart from the original wiki-fied version of the SlackBook at http://docs.slackware.com/slackbook:start, we have a french translation too: http://docs.slackware.com/fr:slackbook:start
And even partial translation to Serbian: http://docs.slackware.com/sr:slackbook:start

You have to understand that translating a book is a lot of hard work. And until more people volunteer to maintain translations on http://docs.slackware.com/ you won't see more than the above. Are you up for it?

Long story short: most if not all of these are translations of the "old" slackbook

Also, while the slackbook was "all a Slackware Linux user should know" when it was first released (and was then even more useful as it provided a lot of useful documentation difficult to gather otherwise), it includes IMO two different kinds of information, that target different needs and/or users:

• installation and configuration of Slackware specifically
• more general tools and features, that can be found on many, if not all Linux and Unix like systems, and for which other sources of documentation are available

As Alien Bob pointed out, http://docs.slackware.com now tries to gather all Slackware related documentation, so if someone would like to do it I think that the best thing would be to put there at least the Slackware-specific parts of these translations - but reviewing and updating them would be necessary first, and that of course needs volunteers...

Me it's hard to say that with translations into other languages, but russian translation is translation of the english slackbook, which is distributed on the official dvd. Second edition, exactly the same. (and many others translations too)

Is it possible to include it in the dvd? Once again, russian translation is equal of the english version, which distributed by the official dvd. I ask from maybe not all, but still some russian-speaking slackusers. I do not speak on behalf of all. Maybe if the spanish-speaking or french-speaking users wish to include translation, they will look if their translation is identical to a translation of the English version, which coming on DVD. I ask the team to consider the inclusion of the russian translation because they are identical. And then, why not help those who need it, when it needs only 2.6 MB of disk space, if you please?

To clarify, I'm not a decider here, so your request should be addressed to Slackware Maintainer, Patrick Volkerding (who probably has seen this thread already).

So, stating that the Russian version (and the English edition with the same content) is too outdated to be included in a distribution media is only expressing a personal opinion.

Of course that doesn't preclude its usage by anyone interested. But then, why not simply read it on line or download it?

Why do we need extra section on the dvd? Its convenient, and practical. No need to look somewhere. Аll that's needed - is on DVD. Even the Internet is not needed. I open the DVD and see many-many programs, and there is Patrick's solicitude comments in the DOCS, and also localization for my native language. And if the version of the slackbook possibly fit on dvd - it will be very pleasure nicely) I can learn slackware only the disc. I can give it to my friends, and all that they need is ... slackware.dvd.iso, which is included with the love of Patrick and the team - everything you need, and even a little bit more in their native language.

I only ask that those who read in their native language better than the English, were able to find that joy inclusive on DVD. Thank you.

Well, krwlr, maybe you are among those who asked for that in a Russian forum following a thread opened by bormant about slint?

If that is the case, be aware that slint by itself doesn't write anything on the Slackware DVD. It only internationalizes its installer, makes a few localized configuration settings and replaces some packages by internationalized ones in the installed system.

So the maximum we could consider in a foreseeable future in the slint project is propose extra packages adding some localized documentation.
Besides that, as already said it's only up to Patrick Volkerding to decide what to include in the Slackware DVD.
