list of installed packages

1. How do I make a list of all the Slackware packages installed and put them in a file for printing? I can run the pkgtool program that lists packages, but I don't know how to send the output to a file.

2. I'd like to remove packages that I'm not using. How do I avoid removing something that is needed for something that I don't understand due to a dependency?

Thanks.

As for #1...

Wouldn't

$ls /var/log/packages > foo.txt

work?

As for #2, well it all depends really. If your unsure, don't remove it. Slackware is already a minimal install really. Usually any of the libs you will want to keep in a lot of the cases. The best way is to pick a package you want to remove, and then check any of the apps you use to see whether or not they will require it or not.

The package list command worked fine for me.

Someday, when I've got time to reinstall if I mess it up, I may try removing a couple.

Thanks.
