I'm running gcc 2.95 and it compiled fine for me. What does the configure script say right before the error?

Angry

basically it says that everything is sane and all compontents are found on my i686

then it goes:

checking for gcc... gcc
Checking for C compiler default output...configure error C Compiler cannot create executables

like that or nearly like it

i tried in the X bash prompt adn logged out of X-same thing
