Yes it can be spoofed. I happen to like that little icon. The point is, it's cool.

A more appropriate place to put that would be user.js. You will have to create that file, it goes in the same directory as prefs.js. Example:
The way I do it is use the Firefox extension UAControl :: Add-ons for Firefox to control what gets sent as the User-Agent on a per-site basis.

My laptop runs only Slack and my lilo doesn't even have prompt.
However I had to commandeer a windows vm I use for tests in order to use a few tools I am unable to work without office.
As long as there is still a gap between what one can do with any other office suit and MS's, I'll have to continue working with it.
Also at my former job if my PC would not register in the local all MS network it is as if I am not at work.
When linux packages will catch up and do all of these out of the box, maybe. Not before though.

I have used linux as my only desktop for over 13 years, coming up 9 years for Slackware, I use one windows program under wine and the occasional game, also under wine or dosbox. In that time I have rarely had to turn on my windows box, usually only to open a file someone has sent to me.

I use my desktop for general household chores, web and email, entertainment and, in the past, have run two small businesses completely Microsoft free.

Admittedly I REALLY MISS that endless round of virus and malware checking, and the hours of watching defragmentation happening, and cleaning out the "bruck" (Orcadian slang for rubbish) that the operating system and associated programs seem to accumulate.

Perhaps I should move back to Windows

Linux is the only desktop used in our house. My wife is using Slackware64, I use Slackware and Slackware64, my son and both of my daughters use other flavors of Linux. I have convinced my club to use Linux also.

I have been a Linux user for years. My first was Yggdrasil.

I've been running Slackware for 9 years and this is my eleventh year running Linux. At home I run Slackware exclusively; I administer a Win 7 box and a MBP for my wife and daughter. At work I run Windows(not my choice).
Slackware is my choice for an OS.

I have it disabled as I use multiple OSes and occasionally the browser User-Agent doesn't accurately reflect what is in use for testing, or being used on "difficult" sites or whatever. So, while it may be a cute feature, it shouldn't be relied on to accurately reflect the poster's OS.

I'm another person who posts from work using Windows. At home I use Linux exclusively apart from a couple of VMs running XP and Windows 8 that I use to keep myself familiar with Windows and occasionally to use a website that only allows images to be posted using IE for some reason.
Because I use the Nightly version of Firefox and don't change my user agent this machine shows Linux only but my other one is set up to report Debian (which it is).

100 % GNU/Linux since 2001. At the time I double-booted Slackware 7.1 and Windows 98, but at some point, the Windows antivirus mistook my LILO installation for an infected MBR and "restored" it. This was the exact moment I decided to wipe Windows definitely from my PC only to reinstall Slackware on the whole hard disk. Since then, only time I come near some Windows installation is on client's PCs, for bookmarking a Samba share, configuring a CUPS/Samba printer or retrieving data after a system crash.

i switch completely to linux approx in 2006. before that, i have WinXP on other partition of my home desktop, mostly for games, at work at that time i use linux for approx 4 years, and first try linux about 2001 year...
in 2006 my cup of patience be full, because WinXP again has to be reach "half-life" stady, and going to slow, and swappable. in that day i reboot to my linux, and in that year use only linux, and in next - too.
now i have at home one win - when i purchase my eeepc 900, it has with preinstalled licensing winxp, and i not erase this, only install slack on another partition. boot in that linux approx 1 - 2 times in year for about half a hour.
my wife also live under linux approx from 2004 - i got old slot1 celeron 333 mhz with 128 mb RAM, and set up slackware with - dont remember correctly, not twm, but one of that small and fast window manager, and he was happy with that now he use my slack desktop and her eeepc 1000h with slack and kde...
after windows, linux is like a recreation - not viruses, malware, strange things, and so on. one time configure it, and it works for years and years...

I've considered using Slackware instead of Windows 7. The problem is that I use Quicken and an older email program called Eudora. Unfortunately none of the personal finance software does everything that can be done by Quicken, and it is also difficult to convert existing data (correctly). The open source Eudora does not support some of the features that I use (regular expressions in filters).

KDE has been another issue for me. Until very recently it has not been stable enough for me to consider it. XFCE is very stable, but it lacks some of the functionality provided in KDE. Most notable (for me) is the ability to easily access shared CIFS folders on other computers. Although KDE is now very stable, it still seems slow and complicated.

I may end up switching to Slackware and running my Windows programs in a virtual machine. I do all my programming work in a Windows XP virtual machine already. After using Windows 8 briefly on a new computer, I am even more inclined to switch to Slackware soon.

Even though I don't use Slackware all the time, I still use it. Some things are just easier or faster in Linux and Slackware is very dependable.

My system icon is very unreliable. Sometimes it shows Tux and other times it shows a question mark inside a circle. And I always post from the same machine!? One of the reasons I rarely pay attention to that icon. Another is what several people have mentioned. They are posting from work. To all of you; I hope your employers do not find out.

My posts will never show a Windows icon though. The only time I go near windows is to look outside.

I flip between the 2 OS depending on my mood really.
Plus (and i'll probably be shot for this on here), I really enjoy coding in visual studio.
