Linux-0.01 is available!

It is even included in the recently released Slackware 3.0, to find a mirror hosting it, see http://mirrors.slackware.com/slackwa....gz.mirrorlist

I encountered a problem building it though: "make" complains about the missing assembler "gas".

I guess I should upgrade my tool-chain...

Caveat emptor: check that you have enough space on disk before expanding the archive as the kernel source tree weights no less than 235669 bytes.

PS I have a problem with the link which is probably dynamically resolved so I append the file for the curious among us. Just remove the .txt extension.

PPS Link updated, thanks to Robby Workman

I checked the date, and it's not April 1st, I checked the link and it is dead ... I don't know what to say.

Sometimes the link works, sometimes it doesn't. I'll send a mail to Robby Workman, he probably knows why.

It works now, but it won't compile with any assembler I have tried.

You're need at the minimum an old GCC. The version Linus used was 1.40. You'd probably be better off booting an old Minix version (either 1.0 or 1.5) and trying to build it on that since it would probably have all of the tools.

I don't know why the link would work sometimes and others not. That file is only present on two mirrors currently (see note below), but unless one of those mirrors is giving an odd response, it should download - the other mirrors don't even have the file, so they should never see a request for it.

You can append ".mirrorlist" to any URL on mirrors.slackware.com to see a list of mirrors on which the file is present. For example, see http://mirrors.slackware.com/slackwa....gz.mirrorlist
