Limitations for slackbuilds

Hi,

When I realized that the source for TexLive is 1.3 GB then I said to myself "no way - I won't compile this on 1.3GHz Celeron".

The problem is that slackbuilds script there are really good but
they allow only one-pass compilation. I mean by that I can not
divide the job into smaller parts: say to run a slackbuild script 3 or 4 times and in each run to compile only a part of a package.

Any ideas?
Greetings,
Piotr

I think the vast majority of that is in data files which do not get compiled at all.

Why compile them then ? Just use Robby Workmans .... http://rlworkman.net/pkgs/14.0/x86_64/

If you're not going to shut the computer down you could just hit ^Z to suspend the job in the middle.

My box is a little faster than yours, it is a dual core 2.8 GHz unit with 2 GB RAM, but, I tend to like to use binary packages rather than compiling large source files(I guess I am not very patient). I will compile smaller things like claws-mail. Robby and Eric provide excellent Slackware packages.

Your box is a speed of light compared to mine. Octave slackbuild I compiled ca. 3 h.

When I had Pentium 150 MHz it was funny to start compiler at evening before I went to bed.
