Lilo Error- Slack 10

Installed Slack 10 and have been using it without any problem. Lilo configured and installed okay during the installation. I made some changes to some other partitions and needed to update lilo. I first manually edited lilo.conf and when I tried to run lilo, I got this error.

bash-2.05b# lilo -v
LILO version 22.5.9, Copyright (C) 1992-1998 Werner Almesberger

Reading boot sector from /dev/hda
part_nowrite: read:: Input/output error

I googled for this and couldn't find any solution. I have tried setting up via liloconfig. It won't install to mbr or root. I get the same error message, no matter what I try.

I can still install lilo or grub from my Debian partition but I usually use Slackware for this because it is the one that I always keep. Help ME.

try checking your pc's bios and look for the antivirus option. it might be set to protect the bootsector against writes.

Like I said it installed to mbr okay last week when I installed Slack 10 and I can write to it without problem from my Debian installation.
