lilo error
Hi. I'm new to all this linux stuff...
Trying to dual boot Windows 7/Slackware 12.2 on a Thinkpad T60p. Slackware installs fine I guess but whenever I try to install lilo I get this message: "warning: partition 4 on /dev/sda is not marked active. warning: device 0x0800: inconsistent partition table, 4th entry CHS address in PT: 915:0:1 --> LBA (14699475) LBA address in PT: 13834800 --> CHS (861:45:1) Fatal: either FIX-TABLE or IGNORE-TABLE must be specified. If not sure, first try IGNORE-TABLE (-p ignore)" Not sure what any of this means. I also tried to make a boot USB key but apparently that did nothing because all the stuff on it before is still there on the drive. I have been trying for a long time to actually use this OS, and am dying to even start using it, but it seems very difficult. Any help would be appreciated. |
OK, look in your BIOS. Is there a setting for the HD, that has options like
DOS / Other? Make sure it's set for DOS and not "Other". |
um no
Thanks for the reply.
These are my BIOS options: Config Date/Time Security Startup Restart HDD diagnostics Nothing in the menu seems to have the option you are talking about. |
Well, you can try to do what it says, of course, that is, run
lilo -P ignore but don't forget to back up your data first. |
thanks anyway
I think I'm going to try another more n00b friendly distro instead.
Thanks anyway. You can delete this thread if you want. |
I don't think the problem is in the distro, looks like something is wrong with your partition table. My first question came from a discussion I found online where somebody was trying to install some other distro on r60 and faced the same problem. It was cured by a change in the BIOS.
