lightest slackware desktop
which of the slackware desktops should i use on my old computer:

166 mHz
32mb ram
3gb HD
4mb video ram

KDE doesn't run too well on that so i need to find an alternative.

fluxbox... maybe even xfce...

xfce is a bit too hevy for that. fluxbox seems good.

Fluxbox or blackbox are the ones I'd recommend. Maybe windowmaker as well.

That's really light on RAM. Considered adding more RAM?

Fluxbox is very easy on RAM. Probably your best choice with what you have to work with.

this computer is too outdated to be worth upgrading. i'm just using it to test how well slack can run stuff on it.

Obviously your goal is to boot into a window manager without using any swap. Strip down the system, don't run hotplug, syslog, mail, etc. Turn of all the getty's except the one on tty1. Substitue bash with csh or z. Don't load any extension in the xorg.conf. Use fvwm or flux. Use kernel 2.4. It's has a smaller footprint than 2.6.

Basically really strip it down to nothing but a bare kernel and a bare X w/ a bare fvwm or fluxbox.
