Libreoffice 4.4.1

I just updated my system with slackpkg+. Libreoffice was updated to latest Alien Bob packages. It is not playing nice with Windows at work. How can I get back to 4.4.1? Thanks.

Could you elaborate "It is not playing nice with Windows at work."? I ask because the package provided by Alien Bob (assuming that you are speaking of this one) is supposed to be used on Linux. Maybe you mean that the format of some document saved under OpenOffice on Linux can't be properly opened or displayed on Windows? Please provide details.

In any case, assuming that you have your previously installed package at hand, change to the directory where it is stored then just type:
Code:
upgradepkg <previous package name>
Actually removepkg acts as replacepkg, in other words it will replace a newer package by an older one if told to do so, regardless of their respective versions.

You can also use pkgtool to remove the package, then use installpkg to install the older version of libreoffice.

I use dropbox to go between devices. I downloaded Excel and Word for Android phone and tablet. Can only use .xlsx and .docx formats when I was using .xls and .doc in Microsoft and Libreoffice.
I saved some files in Libreoffice using .xlsx and .docx and I was not able to download files from dropbox website into Windows 7. The files were corrupted. It seems to me that it because of the Libreoffice update and I need to go back to the previous version.
I do not have the slackpkg system engraved in my brain. I will remove and install the packages I need. Will give update. Thanks!

Are you sure that the files were not corrupted by something else? A bad file copy to dropbox due to bad internet connectivity? Maybe the android excel/word app has a bug that causes file corruption?

Seems like you are jumping to a conclusion that the files are corrupted due to Libreoffice. I do not often use Excel and Word documents, so I might be wrong. I seem to remember lots of issue with docx and xlsx files when I was in college when switching between Microsoft Office and Libre Office, and the reason was because of file compatibility, but never file corruption.

I guess you could try downgrading Libreoffice, but I do not suspect that those files will be uncorrupted based on your usage of libreoffice versions. I would have claimed the android app as the culprit.

The issue started when I saved files in Libreoffice using Slackware 14.1-64. When I went to get them from dropbox web download, they were corrupted. When I next used Win 7 on my computer (dual boot) the files were corrupted after dropbox downloaded. I have dropbox installed on Slack and Win 7. This happen after update to Libreoffice. I do not think Android apps were used in this situation.

O only wanted to go back to previous version of Libreoffice. I am not blaming Libreoffice or Slackware. I just want to use my Android devices if I have to. If it becomes a pain, I will go back to saving everything in xls and doc formats. It is not worth the hassle. Just trying to keep up with the latest and greatest.

When I have a chance to install 4.4.1 I will reply back. Thanks!

N.B. I hate Windows with a passion and wish the whole world used Slackware!!

If you want to check whether it is really LibreOffice 4.4.3 which is corrupting your files, download the old 4.4.1 package here: http://www.slackware.com/~alien/test...e4/pkg64/14.1/

Don't forget to create a LibreOffice bug report (you'll have to create an account there first) if this is indeed broken in 4.4.3 but works in 4.4.1.

I installed LO 4.4.1 from Alien Bob, thanks! Everything returned to normal. Then I did a slackpkg+ update and updated to LO 4.4.3. Everything is now working fine as I expect it to. I guess I just needed to reinstall LO 4.4.3 instead of going back to 4.4.1. Thank you everyone for your help. This thread is marked solved.
