libgomp

When attempting to compile GIMP 2.8.2 I get the following error from the configure script:

Code:
/usr/local/bin/msgmerge: error while loading shared libraries: libgomp.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
configure: error: GNU gettext tools not found; required for intltool
However I have just installed gettext-0.18.1.1, and when I look for libgomp I find this:

Code:
/usr/local/lib/libgomp.so
/usr/local/lib/libgomp.so.1.0.0
/usr/local/lib/libgomp.so.1
/usr/local/lib/libgomp.a
/usr/local/lib/libgomp.spec
/usr/local/lib/libgomp.la
/usr/local/lib64/libgomp.so
/usr/local/lib64/libgomp.so.1.0.0
/usr/local/lib64/libgomp.so.1
/usr/local/lib64/libgomp.a
/usr/local/lib64/libgomp.spec
/usr/local/lib64/libgomp.la
/usr/local/share/info/libgomp.info
Obviously libgomp is installed. Why does the configure script fail to find them? I have executed ldconfig after installing.

Firstly may i ask why are these stuff in /usr/local/lib and not /usr/lib?
And then, is /usr/local/lib or lib64 in your /etc/ld.so.conf?

Slackware 64 : 'gettext' and 'gcc' are part of a complete install :
slackware64/a/gettext*
slackware64/d/gcc*

Package gcc provides :
/usr/lib64/libgomp.a
/usr/lib64/libgomp.la
/usr/lib64/libgomp.so
/usr/lib64/libgomp.so.1
/usr/lib64/libgomp.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib64/libgomp.spec

.

I don't know why it is in that directory instead of /usr/lib.

I have /usr/local/lib in my ld.so.conf, however I also tried to add /usr/local/lib64 which didn't help.
