I don't know what the problem could be, but have you tried using the Tor Browser Bundle instead? It's my preferred method. It comes with everything you need, and there's no installation needed. Just unzip it and run it.

Tried installing a newer version of libevent and when I tried to launch tor this is now
the error message:
Quote:
tor: error while loading shared libraries: libevent-1.4.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
And it is right. I did a search for the file and there is no file by that name on the hard drive. Re-installed the SlackBuild and got the same message.

Well, it was built as a 64 bit version. The script name comes before the ARCH=x86_64, btw. The other way around might work, but I've never done it that way..

I finally re-built Tor with the same script and source as the last time, from SlackBuilds.org, and it now works.
Thanks for your input. Greatly appreciated.
