"Libevent-1.4.so.2: file too short" when trying to run Tor.

Trying to run Tor and it keeps coming back with the error,

Quote:
tor: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib64/libevent-1.4.so.2: file too short
I've tried two different libevent packages, one I build myself from SlackBuilds.org, and both return the same error.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I don't know what the problem could be, but have you tried using the Tor Browser Bundle instead? It's my preferred method. It comes with everything you need, and there's no installation needed. Just unzip it and run it.

Tried installing a newer version of libevent and when I tried to launch tor this is now
the error message:

Quote:
tor: error while loading shared libraries: libevent-1.4.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
And it is right. I did a search for the file and there is no file by that name on the hard drive. Re-installed the SlackBuild and got the same message.

@cwizardone

I am shooting from the hip here , BUT I think you need to build it as a 64 bit version then the installer will find it

ARCH=x86_64 ./some.SlackBuild

Just guessing but worth a try

Well, it was built as a 64 bit version. The script name comes before the ARCH=x86_64, btw. The other way around might work, but I've never done it that way..

Tried this especially on Multilib machines

Right between the lines:
Code:

CXXFLAGS="$SLKCFLAGS" \

and
Code:

./configure \

add the following line (do not leave empty lines around it!):
Code:

LDFLAGS="-L/usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX}" \

Now, your compilation will succeed if you set the ARCH variable to "x86_64".

I finally re-built Tor with the same script and source as the last time, from SlackBuilds.org, and it now works.
Thanks for your input. Greatly appreciated.
