Lets save Slackers from Gnucash hell......
Most of Slackware users cann't install this damn software. I can. Hours have to be spend. But I try to look other alternative because I don't like to install it again when new Slackware is out. So guyz, just give your financial manager software that you know other than gnucash. Let's help other Slack users keep out from Gnucash hell.
My list:
http://www.mechcad.net/products/acem...dex_lite.shtml ( via Wine )
http://www.grisbi.org/ ( not work in my Slack )
http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/ ( Not yet try, but have install it..... )
http://qhacc.sourceforge.net/index.html ( look promising )
Of course there are many more. But the criteria are: free of charge, not outdated, and this is the most important. Everybody can get it running in no time. ( not like Gnucash )
Can you add the list????
I am sleppy..... Hmmmmm .............. Must sleep now.......................

I know of two also-rans that don't quite meet your critera, but I've used them.
cbb - Don't remember the website, but it's probably at sourceforge. Probably unmaintained and outdated, but I used to use it.
Moneydance - www.moneydance.com Works great. Not free, but it is cheap.

If you can install this software, and others run into severe problems using it, perhaps you can post a detailed, step-by-step guide that describes the exact steps you need to take in order to get this package up and running successfully. -- J.W.

Of course, when new Slackware is out, I will make a program to automatically download, and configure all the things to install gnucash..... I am not familiar with bash so I will make a program from c++. That's all. Yeah, I have to admit, gnucash is to good to be true..... except it use old GTK+.

Yeah, but the package from there will need another libraries or programs to run. Installing gnucash from that website is easy but to run is another issue.

Hi all,
Just wanted to report on a successful gnucash installation on Slack 10.0. It's not that much hell, in my experience at least, and I'm not really an old hand at this linux stuff.
I recently wiped my 9.1 installation and installed 10.0 from scratch so I had to try reinstalling gnucash once again. The directions given by RJ Marquette at http://rjmarq.grg/gnucash.html (the link in Dugan's post in this thread) worked with a small alteration - you need db1-1.85-i386-1 from Slack 9.1. Install that with pkgtool or your favorite package manager then the Slack 8.1 packages listed on Marquette's page and follow the directions especially step 3 if you get an error compiling. Also rather than recompiling the gdk-pixbuf, add in the Slack 8.1 package, do the slib install as directed, ./configure and make and make install gnucash and, hopefully, it works.
Sure it's not as easy as dragging a package icon to kpackage and then clicking on install, but it is a bit more fun (as long as it works)....
Cheers,
-geomatt

Geesh, glad this thread came out. Anyone knows of a good small buisness accounting prog for linux? (inventory, invoicing, reports)

Just was looking for further information on Gnucash and Slack, look what I found on the Gnucash wiki: " In a bit of snarky response to that page: dependency and package management systems aren't a luxury. You might try a real distribution."
That's what I call great support. If you want to see this trolling gone, it's a Wiki, but you have to register.
