I'm thinking to get either Thinkpad W series or Dell Precision M4xxx series myself. (probably need to save for a year or two, LOL)

Isn't the Optimus thingy meant to save battery (power) ?

Hi Fietser,

Anything that is supported by X server and the Kernel will run under Slackware.

Cheers... :)

Avoid Optimus technology if you can and more generally, be careful with switchable graphics as they probably will need some additional components like bumblebee. If you selected a model, try to get the exact model/type of the GPU and make a search with that in the forums here at LQ to see if there are problems mentioned.

Does anyone have experience with the AMD hardware.
My Thinkpad Edge is an like an older and smaller version of this. 13" screen AMD Turion processor and radeon HD 4200 graphics. Worked fine with Slackware 13.1 and 13.37. As noted in previous post, only wifi needed a bit of work (had to download drivers). Not made the upgrade to 14.0 yet, but I have every confidence that it will be fine.

This is too expensive.

CPU AMD Fusion A4-4300M
Video Radeon HD 7420G
Doing this works well with Slackware 14 ?
Thank you for your answers.

While AMD is getting better, your safest bet is Intel.

I have a thinkpad x100e which runs fine out of the box with Slackware64-14.0. Any function-keys work properly, wifi, lan audio and graphics are no problem. The architecture is completely AMD.
