I had a similar problem when I upgraded my kernel to the latest .29. Do you have the crda package installed? If you do, their should be a file called wireless-regdb or something similar in /etc/conf.d. Uncomment whichever country relates to you. Make sure the wireless-regdom daemon is loaded on boot. Hope this helps.
