Laptop Wireless Problem
 

After the Slackware 10 install , I find that all the settings for the wireless connection to look good. I have solid information in the iwconfig and in the KWiFiManager. But for the life of me , I can not figure out how to get on be online. For all intent and purposes , it should be working just fine. I have eth0 for the DSL cable and that works just fine ...... and eth1 is setup for wireless when I want to move around .... and all the eth1 status looks great .... but I can not get Slackware to use eth1 //////// Any help would be most appreciated ...... TIA ...

You should modify /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf and change eth0 to eth1 if you use the same settings.
I really don't get if you want to use the same adsl config on different eth...

I want to be able to use the laptop wired with my dsl cable for most of the time .... and as I mentioned , this works fine...... but I also want to be able to go and take the laptop mobile in which case it does not now work so well ..... even though all the software settings are looking solid .... even a good signal strength ...... I am thinking that you are on the same path that I am thinking .... would your recommendation still work given my scenario and that my current system is wired directly into my router and my laptop .....

HI .... I just checked the file ... and do yo recommend that I make the current ETH=eth1 to read eth0=eth1 ??? I am just confirming ////// it does seem to make sense .... thanks again

nope i was meaning eth=eth1. But i still don't get this.. eth0 = plugged to the router by cable.
eth1 = wireless "plugged" to the router?

eth0 is plugged to the router.
eth1 is the wireless ....

I am gonna change the file to read 'eth=eth1'

If you are using dhcp, then as root, type in 'ps aux | grep dhcp', and then type in 'kill ####' where the #'s are the process ID for dhcpcd. After you kill that process, type in 'dhcpcd eth1'. This is what I always do to go between my wireless and wired nic on my laptop.

Also - what are the specifics in terms of the equipment you're using? (make, model, etc). Knowing those would be helpful I think. -- J.W.

I am using a Sony VAIO/ Celeron. This particular laptop is extremely Linux friendly. I have not found a distro that I can not install nor use on this. Just this Slackware "issue". I am going to try the idea in the above post ...... I must say that I like this Slackware a lot .... and if only I can get the wireless thing going ....

Fixed it .... thanks to all.... I had to edit the rc.d.init1 file and make dhcp=yes for eth1. Now I have the wired and unwired capability ..... Thanks again, Emmett
