Laptop... USB non-mount, and KDE woes

I just installed Slack 11 on my Toshiba P4 2.4 lappie. I'm more than happy with it (I've waded through Callera, SuSE, RedHat, and a dozen others), but I can't get my Kingston thumb drive to work. Won't detect it, won't mount it, nothing. I saw a bunch of threads on the subject, but none seemed very... simple. I'm using KDE 3.5.

Speaking of KDE, is there a utility to install those darnable styles?

Welcome to LQ and Slackware. When you insert the drive open a terminal window (Konsole) and type dmesg. There should be some information at the end regarding a usb device detected, vendor/product information and so on. What you're looking for is something like

sda: sda1

That would be the device that it's attached to, which can be mounted. I know other distros automount them upon insertion, but I haven't known Slackware to do that. There may be a way, but I haven't needed it enough to find out.

Thank you very, very, VERY much! I'll be sure to come back here with all my Linux needs

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'll try to come back and say if it worked or not.
