Laptop monitor become dim

I am using a Laptop of Toshiba Tecra 8000 installed Slackware 10.1 on it. WHen I run X Windows, after I switched to other terminal (Ctrl-Alt Fx) and switch back (Ctrl_Alt F7), the X Windows display become very dim. But if I end the X session and startx again, then it became bright again (until I switch to other terminal, the problem reoccur). Is it because of my laptop or is there anyway I can fix it?

I've experienced corruption when switch from X to console and back when using framebuffer. Try setting vga=normal in lilo.
