Laptop LCD not detected properly on Slackware 10.1

I guess it has some problems with the screen size , 2 inches of my screen is just blank form either of it's 4 sides as if it's a 10 inch LCD

Presario 2550 / LCD 15"1
current reso=1024*768

I did test other resolutions but the highest which can be set in KDE control center is 1024x768
I guess i should change a couple of things in xorg.conf but I have no idea what those things are?!!

If you don't know the xorg.conf format very well, you could shut down X, and execute the following command as root:

xorgcfg -textmode

xorgcfg will provide a comfortable menu interface with which you can change X settings.

I have changed the frequency and backed up xorg in case anything went wrong, now things have changed and i almost have 85% of my screen, but still some of it is blank
Since compaq gave no specs on my LCD frequency where can I find the right vertical refresh rate and horizontal sync?
Is there any tool which can probe my monitor and give me the right numbers?
