Question Language Prob on Login and TTY Close Screens

Hi Guys
I am running Slackware Current fully updated with the 3.4 kernel and everything works great except for a minor language glitch which is hardly a showstopper but bugs me because I can't figure out what is causing it. My locale is configured as Canadian English and so it is everywhere except for two pop-up windows: the initial login window and the TTY close window on shutdown/restart. They appear to be in some cursive language like Arabic. I am sure it is some silly configuration issue I overlooked but I can't figure out what it is.
Does anyone have an idea?
