kopete does not see online status of contacts
For some reason kopete does not see whether contacts are online. I was able to log into my account fine, and the contact list populated with all my contacts, but they all show offline or unknown status. If I fire up that old gaim on the same machine, it properly recognizes which users are online, with the exception of the user logged in with kopete on another machine. So it seems kopete has trouble setting its own status and receiving the staus of contacts.
ie. A is logged in with kopete on machine A, B with gaim on B, C with who cares on WDZ. A cannot see that anyone is online. B can see that C is online, but not that A is online. Brian Edited for clarity |
This seems to have mysteriously resolved itself. Thanks anyway. Brian

I would just stick with gaim
lol Glad it all sorted its self out |
I'm trying to get some kind of web conferencing going, and gaim doesn't seem to support this. Actually I don't think kopete does either, although it does support webcam. For simple IM both gaim and kopete seem fine.

why dont you use skype?

I don't think the Linux version of skype supports video conferencing.

OK.
Why don't you try using Ekiga? It is designed for GNOME, but obviously works in KDE. It supports both audio and video. It was originally called GnomeMeeting. http://ekiga.org/ I do realize that I am not helping you fix your problem, I'm just listing other alternatives, but I hope it is helpful |
The dependencies of Ekiga (pwlib and opal) can be a pain to compile. I'd recommend using Alien Bob's builds. You can find them here:

I've got ekiga on my system. The problem is that I need to web conference with people on WNDZ machines. Do you know what program they would need to run to communicate with ekiga?
