Konqerer, Xfree86 ... ppp ... bottleneck ?
After setting up ppp, xfree86 and KDE I managed to get surfing with slack in a nice gui way.
Now I'm just on a 56k here nothing flash, but somewhere along the line things got uncool. Perhaps you don't want to hear this but surfing WinXP and IE6 I am (comparitively) hanging ten in terms of speed but Konqerer is leaving me hanging out for pages to load. Hmmm since Linux runs over half the world's web servers it must be doing something right ... have I been unlucky ? Config problem ? Is this the price you pay for "security" ? Do KDE/Konqerer/Xfree86 have speed woes ? I like the look and feel of Konqerer very much. But slow is not good. |
Try Opera for Linux, i personally don't like Konqueror.
Also the best browser (and fastest) is probably lynx (run lynx in terminal) ...now too bad it has trouble loading all those pr0n pics.... :D -NSKL |
Gidday mate...
There's two things that come to my mind here ... #1: use Mozilla and increase the size of the cache (both memory and disk, that's what MS exploder does (it will gladly use 100MB for caching websites if you let it ;}) #2: check your kernel configuration, see whether PPP supports the deflate-algorithm in your set-up. If not, recompile your kernel. Cheers, Tink p.s.: on my home box mozilla is faster than exploder 5.5 on win98 :} |
My fault
Just to put things straight, a few small tweaks and everything's whipping along now with great speedy speed.
Build is going quite well so far, has been good fun. Thanks for your advice chaps :) Pres |
