KMail2 synchronising

I have used KMail for years, but nearly gave up with the problems the migration to KMail2 has caused. I thought I'd got over the worst of them, but there is still a major issue that is giving me headaches. Unless I can sort it, I will be migrating to Thunderbird - but even that migration appears not to be simple!

For 90% of the time, I do my e-mail from my desktop machine. But occasionally I have to travel and use my laptop. With the original KMail (1.X), I could simply use rsync to sychronise the Mail directory and all worked perfectly. If I try the same trick with KMail2, I end up with multiple versions of the same messages, which the "remove duplicates" function seems unable to fix! It also means that my sync'd mailbox is twice as big (at least!) as it needs to be! Both machines are running up-to-date versions of Slackware64-14.0

So question 1: Has anyone found a simple way (one that doesn't involve setting up personal imap servers and the like!) of synchronising two KMail2 mailboxes?

Question 2: Has anyone found a simple way of exporting my existing KMail2 mailbox to Thunderbird? A Google for this finds plenty of references to exporting KMail-1, but few for KMail2 - and those few seem incomplete or incomprehensible! And as an aside, is keeping Thunderbird mailboxes in sync as simple as it was in KMail-1, ie: a simple rsync command?

The problem seems to be that the filename given to the messages contains the name of the computer to which it was downloaded. So if you have synced the machine once, and then VERY LABORIOUSLY deleted all the duplicates by hand, the next time you sync, it duplicates them all again! Presumable the "remove duplicates" doesn't work because of the difference in the filenames assigned by the different computers!

And why there is no "export" to a standard file format completely escapes me! This is the kind of "vendor lock-in" we expect from Micro$oft - not an open-source application!

(Rant over - honest!)

So thanks for the pointer, but its what I'm already trying. It works to a degree, but creates as many problems as it solves!
