KMail & HTML. Is There Any Hope?
 

At this point, on any given day, approximately 90% of the e-mail I receive is in the HTML format.

I've been a Big Fan of KMail for many years, but its HTML support is lacking to say the least and forwarding HTML mail in its original format is impossible. Many of the people I correspond with for business purposes require HTML, so very reluctantly, I just bit the bullet and moved everything to Thunderbird.

Is there any hope that sometime in the near future KMail will provie better HTML support?

A few months ago I encountered similar questions. I decided to use KMail anyway. I can write and receive HTML mail but the replies strip all formatting. Stripping HTML during a reply was not a show-stopper for me although mildly irritating.

I dislike XUL apps. I tested Thunderbird, which was slow and I did not like the overall design. KMail was my only choice.

Overall, KMail is working great for me.

My own research found the KDE bug report and many people are upset by this shortcoming. The developer response is that full HTML is not possible in 3.5.x but is planned for 4.x. Their basic response was "quit whining."

KDE is supposed to be taken seriously in business? Perhaps if developers were not so pig-headed (a.k.a. religious) about HTML mail in the first place the problem never would have occurred. I have no time for anti-HTML advocates. Few of them live in the real world. Telling people they can't use HTML in email is somewhat like telling people they cannot write or paint with colors.

I like everything about KMail EXCEPT the lack of proper HTML support. I think it is the best e-mail client I've used to date, BUT, I got tried of having to use two programs to do what could be done in one, i.e., KMail for personal e-mail and Thunderbird for business related e-mail.

I've been running KDE 4.xx and Thunderbird is faster, much faster, than KMail in that environment, plus KMail has one or two other issues that result in it not being the application we knew in KDE 3.5.xx.

Writing or painting with colors is an excellent analogy!

Yes, I've ran into that same attitude. Say something critical about KDE 4.x and they act like parents who have just been told their "little darling" is actually the neighborhood brat, and, of course, they refuse to believe it. :)

I'm tempted to jump on the soapbox and rant about KDE 4.xx, but I'll just say I'm about to make the move to Slamd64, when 12.2 becomes available, and looking forward to using KDE 3.5.xx once again.
