kernel upgrade - can't find keyboard on laptop

I have jumped from kernel 2.4.22 to 2.6.6 on my toshiba laptop. The kernel compilation was successful but unfortunately it can't find the keyboard. Here's a synopsis of what I have done:

Edit '/etc/lilo.conf' and change image = /boot/vmlinuz to image = /boot/vmlinuz.old and label = Linux to: label = Linux.old

Open up '/usr/src/linux/Makefile' Uncomment #export INSTALL_PATH=/boot

Issue the following commands:

make menuconfig
make clean
make bzImage
make install
make modules
make modules_install

# mv arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/bzImage-2.6.6
# mv /boot/
# cd /boot
# rm
# ln -s

Just 2 things not about the problem itself...
One is that you should avoid make install, it tries to do what you did before (moving the kernel, the systemap, etc), but most times it can't do it well...
The other one, did you run lilo? (I guess you did since it doesn't find the keyboard :P)

The keyboard problem must be some option in the kernel configuration...

What is your output with :

cat /path/to/kernel/sources/.config | grep -i key

I cannot get any output since the keyboard doesn't work - not even in single user mode. There's this problem w/ ALSA driver configuration - cud this be the reason?

No. It's disconnected. Not possible even w/ private IP.

GRUB let users do tab browsing; does LILO have similar options? I been [TAB]-ing LILO and trying to define my own parameters. Nothing happens

When compiling a kernel do I need to select some stuff from "make menuconfig" menu as "module" ? I have chosen all the stuff w/ 'y' and they all come as[*] and not [M].

Also, how can I see what keyboard my laptop is using?
