Kernel selection problem
Hi,
I have been running slack 9.0 for some months with good results. I'm now trying to do an installation with kernel "bare.i 2.4.20" on a new build machine and it starts to be tricky. At booting of the system it comes a lot of information telling me the kernel is wrong and it pass by very quick. (I don't know how to reduce the text speed.) Anyhow I believe that wrong kernel is used. :tisk: Please advise how to proceed with this machine. :Pengy: The machine is based on a Gigabyte P4 Titan 533 motherboard with an Intel Celeron Processor ( 2GHz, 478 Pin, 128 Cache, 400 MHz FSB) Best regards /tungsten |
In the mean time I'm trying this:
Doing a complete new installation, removing all old stuff. At the configuartion part of the installation will I use the latest bare.i kernel that is downloaded from the current Slackware directory. I have done a floppy. The question is how I should adress the file at thatpart of the installation? /tungsten All right that idea was not so good. |
The screen output text during the booting resided on /var/log/message[s], the latest booting is on the bottom.
U can boot ur old kernel, see /boot for the available kernels. Modify ur /etc/lilo.conf, add another : image=... .. .. for the old kernel, thing should be like it was, supposed u had not overriten the old kernel after compiling.. To make the modification of /etc/lilo.conf take effect do: # lilo -C -v -v /etc/lilo.conf |
Hi linuxJaver,
Thank's for your support. Unfortunately is not working beacuse the machine is rebooting before I come so far in your instruction. Best regards tungsten ; ) |
