kernel rolling, missing mods

I'm using Slackware 8.1, and have had to roll my own kernel for CD burning, among other things. This is an old machine, Pentium Pro, and I've chosen all the options for that, plus what I think is everything else I need. What I don't need is any PCMCIA support, but that seems to make booting up _and_ IPTABLES a little cranky.

I noticed a section in the Makefile used for legacy PCMCIA support. Should I comment that out?

Thanks,
Geoff.

What do you mean by "a little cranky"?

Well, on closer inspection, the boot messages aren't showing any of the pcmcia stuff, but loading the firewall script produces screens full of 'depmod:' messages about Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/pcmcia/you-name-it.o.gz. I had turned the firewall scripts off, in trying to troubleshoot some other network issues, so that may be why I don't get the errors on loading the OS.

Why would loading the iptables mods cause this kind of reaction?

Thanks,
Geoff.
