Question Kernel question

Hi. I have a few question related to my kernel.
So i have kernl bareacpi.i (Slackware) now i whant to recompile it and att ACPI support so my fans will be turned on or of (Hopefully).
Now after i make required changes with: make menuconfig or make xconfig, i need to run:
make dep
make clean
make modules
make modules_install.

My question is. My kernel wont change right? i mean only the acpi setting was changed. So my kernle will be the same only with ACPI option enabled right ?

Thank you

When you compile a new kernel any modifications you make to the saved configurations will be reflected in the resulting new compiled kernel. That's why it's best to save your old kernel as an alternate boot until your satisfied with the new kernel.

Here's a good helper reference:

"Chapter 19. Building a kernel"
http://www.slackbasics.org/html/kernel.html

If your curious, you can compare the kernel's .config files for differences.

# cd /usr/src/linux
# cp .config .config-SAV
... compile new kernel ...
# diff .config .config-SAV
< DISPLAY_CONFIG_CHANGES_HERE

Yeah. But it's always good to have another kernel\s about.
