Kernel probs
 
Hi. I'm an owner of a very different notebook from Compaq! It's Compaq Presario 711EA. I've just kompiled a new kernel with almost no changes from the source. Only changed the processor, changed my NIC from module to built in and changed my soundcard from module to built in! But when I'm fireing up my Gnome it says: Couldn't open mixer device /dev/sound/mixer. What did I do wrong? Can anyone help?

Try changing the permissions on your /dev/sound/mixer

chmod 666 /dev/sound/mixer

But I have /dev/mixer & /dev/mixer1
