Kernel problems after upgrade from 9.1 to 10 with SWaReT

Hi all,

This problem, has been stumping me for days now, I cant seem to find any answers on google or lq.org that seem to be of any help. I recently upgraded an older pentium II box that was running Slack 9.1 to 10 using SWARET. I have been trying to to compile a new kernel since i did the update, and I keep getting this error....

Code:
root@viper:/usr/src/linux# make menuconfig
HOSTCC scripts/basic/fixdep
In file included from /usr/include/netinet/in.h:212,
  from scripts/basic/fixdep.c:107:
/usr/include/bits/socket.h:305:24: asm/socket.h: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [scripts/basic/fixdep] Error 1
make: *** [scripts_basic] Error 2
root@viper:/usr/src/linux#
I realize that it is telling me that i need to gett some header files, but I am not exactly sure why those files are not there to begin with. And if they are kernel header files, then how come they were not included with the full kernel source?? I am ina little bit of a bind here, I thought that it might be relted to a GCC problem, because the current kernel that is running was compiled with gcc-3.2.3 and Slack 10 comes with 3.3.4, so I uninstalle dthe new GCC and reinstalled the slack 9.1 version, and i still got the same problems. I then reupgraded to 3.3.4 and still nothing. I also tried reinstalling the kernel source for both 2.6.5 and 2.6.7 with no change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Geoff

Did you try to install the kernel-header package ? (mine is 2.4.26 and I compiled a 2.6.7 kernel fine)

I have the same problem with mandrake 9.2. The error message is only slightly different.

It is solved.
when it tells "No such file or directory", find it in /usr/src/linux/include/(filename) and copy it to override /usr/include/(filename),

Any syntax error of header file could be modified in contrast to other distro's /usr/src/include (I'm using both MDK and RH). It's so convenient to have more than one distro on one computer!
