Exclamation Kernel modules

Hy i tried over and over again to mace acpi work in 2.4 kernel. I am tired of this and i decided to try installing Slack with 2.6 kernel
I know , after instalation (first boot) i need to instal kernel_modules package. ok Don that but after reboot SURPRISE.... i got a message that says somethink like .....kernle to big ....
what i did wrong ?
And after i will install kernel_modules, will my eth work ? because it does not work .
Mabye with 2.6 kernel i will get my fans to start and stop normaly

Thank you

Which 2.6 kernel did you install.
1. The one provided in the install process, or,
2. The one provided in the extra packages. 2.6.17.13

That kernel too big message, shows up immediately after the system attempts to boot, is that correct. I am sure it means that lilo is not configured correctly.
It may be simpler to run the install again and install lilo from their automatically.
Whether you return to kernel 2.4 or 2.6
ls /lib/modules/build/drivers/acpi will indicate whether the acpi modules are present. If so load them at boot. Edit /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
/sbin/modprobe ac battery fan processor video thermal-zone or whatever you need. One line for each. You didn't mention whether you are using a laptop or PC.
If acpi is built in it should just work.

What type of eth do you have. Probably you need to load the module to get it to work.
If it is not loading during boot ie it is not detected. Do the same as for acpi.

Sorry i forgot. I am using a laptop. With kernel 2.4 everything is ok except that the fans ar always on and i cannot make them to turn of. ACPI is loaded , i can read /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature
and even the battery status

What does lspci -v say about your eth. Is it inbuilt or a pcmcia card.

Boot with your Slackware CD/DVD. You know where they say "in a pinch you can .... "

Then as root do..
%lilo

do it 2-3 times to be sure ;P
restart and it will work fine.

I hope the fans are working. If not check if you have correct ACPI support or you might have to recompile. There are plenty of guides on how to recompile your kernel. While you are at it get a new one from kernel.org
