Actually it's in testing, not extra. It's still good news though even if it's an RC!

Cool

Very cool!
I suspect it's very likely that a 5.x kernel will make it into the -current tree at some point.

Thanks for the heads-up I will replace my custom kernel with this.

NVidia driver new version 440.31 is building with kernel 5.4 now,
but VBox 6.1 beta is still failing, as well vhba module.

Thanks to Mr. Volkerding for making the 5.4.0 kernel available for testing. It works properly on my test server running all services as well as on the production server (real system not virtual machine).
I predicted that 5.3 will be the next LTS that will arrive in Slackware-current but it's even better!

Can someone test nvidia-legacy390 on this kernel? Does it even compile?

Also, this enables PSI support in Slackware, so we may eventually see OOMd on Slackbuilds.org

I'm sorry if the post offended someone. It's just that this is the ever present issue
that stops people from testing. Frustrating!

Well, the point of testing IS to find if stuff is broken.

They've had maybe 25 years to join the train, or at least release info, to get their
chips supported natively. One of the last dinosaurs in the business.

Is 5.4 the Slackware one, or the one you built? If it's the Slackware one, how did you get the drivers to build?

It's my build.

I just tested with the Slackware 5.4.0-rc6 package and NVidia 440.31 failed.

There is a new VBox beta, 6.1 beta2, but it fails with both my kernel and SW testing kernel.
