kernel headers
hallo,
i'm not sure about kernel headers, i installed slackware 10.2 with kernel 2.4 and updated to 2.6.15. now i want to compile hal, but i read in the internet that i have to update also the kernel headers in /usr/include/linux.
Now i'm not sure how to do this.
Perhaps somebody can tell me how to do this.

im sure slack uses swaret to update which you can get from http://swaret.sourceforge.net/index.php
allso they use
http://freshmeat.net/projects/slaptget/
if you do a little reading on these web pages im sure you will find your answer.when you update your kernel you need to update your kernel headers or you wont be able to compile a lot of software

first u need to download kernel-modules,kernel-ide,kernel-headers & kernel-source;then upgrade ur current kernel packages .. u may use 'upgradepkg packagename.tgz' / for compressed packages in .tgz / .. after that u have to configure, compile & install ur new kernel ..

I would advise against updating the system headers (located in /usr/include/linux) unless you know what you're doing! Keeping the kernel source available after you've compiled/installed the kernel should be enough for any programs that require "kernel headers".
Try compiling hal and seeing what happens =)

i read that's no good idea to update the kernel headers because you create an inconsitency with all the compiled and installed programs, because they were compiled with a 2.4 kernel... so i'm also confused... like the guy in the linked post above...
finally i compiled the hal with the trick above... but i'm not sure about how to handle in future. because some people say it makes the system unstable. What do i have to believe?
