kernel 2.6.7 - palm /dev/ not there anymore

After upgrading (finally) to the 2.6.7 kernel provided with slack 10, I had
a few issues to sort out, but nothing big. Only problem left is connecting
to my USB Zire71 palm.

I no longer get a /dev/ttyUSB1, which is what worked with jpilot. (and others)
The only "usb" references I found in /dev/ are /dev/tts/USB0 & USB1
Tried them, and not only did it not work, jpilot gave an error:
" pi_bind Invalid argument " instead of just saying " device not found " .
Also tried /dev/visor & /dev/ttyUSB1 - but since they aren't there - obvioulsy
they did not work either.

(Only copied things that pertained to USB)
lsusb shows:

lsdev shows::

00:11.3 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6202 [USB 2.0 controller] (rev 23)
So... whats the trick I'm missing? Go easy on me, I felt lucky to get it to work the first
time.
Thanks in advance.
