Kernel 2.6.18 on Slack 11.0 - no dhcp

I naively installed kernel-generic-2.6.18 (I have IDE, ext2
partitions) and kernel-modules-2.6.18 on my Slack 11.0.

After some tinkering I got it to boot and run.

Everything seems OK as far as I can tell, except:

1) dhcpcd doesnt get started, so no internet connection.

2) udev seems to be using lots of resources.

I tried to go back to kernel 2.4, but it seems udev is totally
different, and the things I need to run kernel 2.4 are gone.

I looked for info on upgrade to 2.6 before starting this, but
obviously didn't look in the right places.

If someone can tell me where to look (or give more specific
advice) I'll be pretty happy!

(Using puppy linux on CD for anything internet for now!)

Thanks,

John Velman

Hmmmmmm......I'm running the 2.6.18 kernel on slackware 11 and have no Internet issues. Maybe check the networking section of the slackbook.

Thanks!

My rc.inet1.config file needed to have USE_DHCP set to "yes".
I lost that somewhere in the process.

Now to find out why Intel ISA PCIC probe: not found

keeps showing up in dmesg.

Still a newbie after all these years,

The ISA PCIC probe problems seems to be that I don't have any
pcmcia cards on my machine! (As near as I can tell so far). Old
machine.

Anyway, I made rc.pcmcia not executable, and now all works (all I've tried)!

Best,

And thanks again.
