KDM login manager will not save new user

Problem with KDM login manager, when logged in as root the login manager will not save new user login information. If I try to save information and close the login manager. When I reopen it the user name is there but none of the privileges are saved. That person is unable to log on also after rebooting. Only root can log on. Any Ideas or help would be appreciated.

Don't use the KDM login manager. Use /usr/sbin/adduser at the command line. Try not to use anything with a K in front of it as root.
