KDE with RadeonHD

Hello, first I want to apologize for my bad English.
I know this issue has been discuss many times, but I can't find a solution to my problem.
I have a video card RadeonHD 4850, I installed fglrx, setup xorg with aticonfig - initial.
Video Rendering works, found my video card, everything looks fine, but when I'm in KDE everything is moving very ... slowly. If you put more than one clip on youtube it becomes quite slow, and if it is in HD and full screen, should kill the process.
Before using Gnome, but with new versions it is the same like in KDE, and don't like them.
It is there have any possibility to have well functioning system with KDE and RadeonHD?
I stop Desktop Effects. Don't use Compiz or some similar software.
If you guys need some information tell me.
Thanks in advance!
PS: I'm with kernel 3.2.5.

That should surely be possible. I have a Radeon HD 4670 without any problems. Initially I used the fglrx driver but have long since changed to the open radeon driver and have compositing and desktop effects all working smoothly.

Would be good to know what is your CPU? Also check if you are using latest Flash player, I know that some versions ago Flash was very slow on any cpu/video card, I couldn't watch any hd Flash movies. Also you can try HD avi/mkv file, in any player, like vlc, to check if this is CPU/Video problem or Flash itself.

HD Movies go very well. Тhe processes used in normal operation loaded too much CPU, and do not know why?
If i use fluxbox there the things are better. But still can't watch anything from youtube without lag. And is not only youtube... i mean almost every web site with flash is like that. Wondering is this problem with the video driver or something else?

Just a guess, but could it be related to a slow internet connection?

It looks like problem comes from flahs player, maybe browser, or like Brox already mentioned internet connection speed. Your hardware is powerful enough for HD video, and as you said normal HD videos (not Flash) like avi/mkv works very well then problem should not be in video driver itself.

Only one more thought I have what can be wrong. Pleas let us know if you are using 32 or 64 bit system and Flash player? Maybe if you have 64 bit slackware installed then it is possible that you have only 64 bit video driver, but if you will install 32 bit Flash player on 64 bit system without 32 bit video driver I doubt that you will get good video performance in Flash. So then you should install 32 bit video driver too, or install 64 bit Flash.

Hi,

You are using 'fglrx'. What about trying 'radion'? You have tried open source driver right?

BTW, when posting information you can use something like: pastebin.
Not everyone wants to or can download information.

Before use 64bit Slackware, but tired of multilib problems.
My internet connection is good. I got Windows7 to, and there i don't have problems with that.

Is it open source drivers better than fglrx? I mean what are the pros and cons of open source drivers?
If they are better i will try them.But i think when i compile the new kernel didn't put the radeon module. Should i recompile the kernel again?

Hi,

Since you have made a custom kernel then you may need to re-run the config then compile with 'radeon' as a module.

I believe your chipset is supported by 'radeon';

Hi,

Actually the 'radeon' driver should be available through 'X';

But, for even basic 2D acceleration, it still requires kernel support in the form of the radeon DRM driver.

I think that open source drivers solve my problem, now is much better, but i have one question. Can i stop vsync, because on glxgears i got really low fps (50-60).
But the problem with flash player is gone so i think not gonna use fglrx again
BTW never use radeon open source driver before. Didn't know that is better than fglrx.
Thanks guys.
