KDE System Space
I'm trying to gauge the size of an linux install with bare bones kde with several language packs.
I have this unusual pc application - a sort of multilingual library. The languages in use are: English; Chinese: Romanian; Tagalog (a Filipino language); Spanish; Portugese, and possibly a few others. The idea was to run kde, wine and one or two programs in each language. KDE has the selection of languages, and I can split them up per user. The chinese are ok with a latin keyboard, as they have a latinised phonetic way of writing stuff in characters - don't ask me for details. The only one left with keyboard issues is Arabic; I still have to hear from them. Here's the snag: The box is old, and has got an old time IDE hard disk, 19G, and I just threw out all of mine! How much of that will fit (+swap) on 19G?? |
From PACKAGES.TXT:
Code:

@keefaz: Thanks for the reply. Didn't know that info was there.
With that size, I might just do it. I was getting worried when I saw my own / Code:
Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on The sums I was doing were / 10-12G /boot ~50M swap ~2G minimum home Approx 1G per language; 1 user per language each with 500Megs library package, wine files, firefox cache & some utility. Now stick on English, Chinese, Romanian, Portugese . . . it suddenly gets a little crowded and unhealthy on a little 19G disk. What irritates me is that, amidst a load of other junk, I recently shredded and slung good ide disks because 'nobody wants these now.' :-//. EDIT: I'll go off and try it if it's 32 bit. If Multilib adds much, I'll have to think. |
