kde starting problems
Hello guys
I have p3 600 mhz, 128 mB RAM, slackware 10.2 with kde 3.4.2 and i
I have two problems when starting kde 3.4.2
If i login as root, after login screen and when kde starts sound drivers i hear continuous beeping from my speakers. i cannot hear anything else i play while beeping. If I do alsactl -restore, or alsconfig, sound card stops beeping and everything works fine, UNTIL I RESTART MY COMPUTER. i have sound blaster !live sound card. if I login as other user than root, such thing doesn't happen.
the second problem is that in some cases my computer freezes when starting kde. it happens perhaps in 10% cases of starting kde. I didn't notice this problem when i start other window managers included in slackware, only kde. this thing usually happens during loading screen (after login) and sometimes when I first start some application. i have matrox mga g400 graphic card and i'm on 1024xsomething resolution. I've installed my graphic card using xorgsetup.

Hey Welcome to LQ! Have you ran alsaconf yet? If not try running that for configuring your sound card. Hope this helps.

after configuring your soundcard with alsaconf, it will be best to save the setting with the startup script will use alsactl restore to restore your previous setting and it won't forget about it
hope it helps

I have runned alsaconf first time when I installed slackware, and it worked (and works on other accounts except root). even now, when i run alcaconf beeping stops and everything works, i run alsactl store and it's ok. but next time when I login as root..same thing again: continous beeping and i must run command alsactl restore.
I made that command alsactl restore runs everytime i login, but it's no full solution of problem.

in my system, it is called automatically and i don't have to do it manually, since it's the default behaviour from the startup script
