I think if you are running Slackware 10.2 it is unwise to install a package compiled for Slackware current. I know this sometimes works, but there can be problems with library versions and if you start to upgrade libraries, even more problems could arise.
I suggest getting the KDE 3.5.2 the KDE package which has been build for Slackware 10.2:
ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.kde...Slackware/10.2
It works well for me and I installed by simply using 'upgradepkg'.

can you load GDM automatically ?
well, i have used the latest glibc but when i use run level 4, it won't load KDM. Just a blank screen. But if i use text mode, i have to login first and startx and it worked. Any suggestion to fix this problem??

i have the exact problem...kde starting up, black background then a crash. MY problem was i didn't upgrade to X11 6.9, and i found out kde3.5.2 was apparently compiled against 6.9, and i use 6.8. once i upgraded X11 to 6.9, kde worked fine.

I think the reason I use GDM is because I installed Gnome with Gware.
