KDE print dialogs inconsistent
Slackware 13.37, KDE as supplied there. CUPS doing the print managing on a HP PHotosmart printer.

I find that depending on the application I am using I get two sorts of print dialog. Some apps (the non-KDE ones eg Libre Office, GIMP, evil proprietary Adobe Reader) give me a print dialog which has a lot of options including - crucially - the ability to change the print mode on the printer (eg draft, normal, photo-quality). Others (generally the KDE apps, notably okular, gwenview) provide a much more restricted dialog in which the current/default printer mode is shown, but cannot be changed unless I am missing something obvious.

Anybody know how to make the KDE apps behave like the non-KDE apps? Failing that, where (in CUPS??) should I set the default mode which comes up in the KDE-apps dialog ?

With the KDE apps (e.g. okular, gwenview), when you enter the print dialog, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, click on the the setting you wish to change, then double click on the value to get a drop down box.

Ow wow! A hidden drop down box - masterpiece of UI design...

I had left-, right- and double- clicked in or around these lines many times, but I see it now.

Thanks for the instructions.
