Missing some card games. I was really into KPatience. 1051 wins in Freecell and no losses. I'll check that out later, though.

I just installed vtown, everything seems to work ok.
Thanks PV for the huge upgrade and AlienBob for maintaining
ktown for so long.

Thumbnails for audio files are native in Dolphin now

Okular seems not freezing anymore on large pdf files,
also freezing after the first print is gone too,
also the 10 seconds delay when closing a file and open
another is gone too (that happens when running Xfce clipboard,
not Okular problem but Qt4).

And kpat is gone too, I hope there will be a slackbuild at SBo.

Did you see the changelog entry?

I dropped ... and kpat (not adding three new dependencies only used for a solitaire game).

Of course I saw that entry. That's why I said I would check it out later. That meant that if I want it, I would have to add it myself. Just my own musing, but thanks!

So, seems that he does not shipped the PAM files on his own build of SDDM, with the consequence that the SDDM is DOA.

The fix is rather simple: to grab the files /etc/pam.d/sddm* from KTown's SDDM and to put them in the right place, then just reboot.
Thanks! I had the same problem and your advice fixed my issue. Greatly appreciated.

BTW the right ktown package is sddm-qt5 and is located at ktown's kde/plasma/plasma-extra

It took 1 hour and 50 minutes for my local mirror to get updated. Upgrade complete. I used slackpkg w/slackpkg+ to do it with.

First took out ktown from slackpkgplus.conf. I already have slackpkg.conf and slackpkgplus.conf setup to deal with testing. Applicable lines from each:
Code:
# From slackpkg.conf:
PRIORITY=( patches testing %PKGMAIN extra pasture )
From slackpkgplus.conf
PKGS_PRIORITY=( slackware64:id3lib ) # Added 2018-01-09, also in alienbob
PKGS_PRIORITY+=( testing:gcc ) # Added 2020-09-07 start testing the gcc 10
PKGS_PRIORITY+=( testing:vtown ) # Added 2020-11-04 start testing the vtown
PKGS_PRIORITY+=( testing nonslack slackpkgbeta slackpkgplus multilib restricted alienbob )
- I then ran 'slackpkg clean-system' to remove ktown packages not being upgraded. These were mostly packages given back their upstream names.
- I ran 'slackpkg upgrade-all' just to get a look at what would happen. Those packages listed in the ChangeLog.txt entries that are not included in vtown, but were part of ktown, as expected showed as "slackware64" upgrades. In addition I found LibRaw, exiv2 would be upgrading the installed ktown package. Of course both libinput and poppler were also listed as "slackware64" for upgrade. One additional package was listed "phonon-gstreamer", which now has it's upstream name. Everything else was the expected "testing"
- I removed those packages listed in ChangeLog.txt and phonon-gstreamer.
- I removed drumstick (alien) that was part of ktown so it wouldn't be upgraded from alienbob repo. I'll decide later if I need it.
- I then ran 'slackpkg install testing' which picked up all of the new (those not installed) packages in testing.
- I then ran 'slackpkg upgrade-all'
- After that finished, I rebuilt sddm from the vtown source after making the change to sddm.post-install. At the end of the build I noticed that man pages not gzipped message, seems they were being placed in '/use/share/man'. The cmake variable "CMAKE_INSTALL_FULL_MANDIR" was not working, replaced that with "CMAKE_INSTALL_MANDIR", problem solved.
- I am posting this from vtown KDE Plamsa, so far all seem to be working well.

I will of course be disappointed if digikam is dropped. I have been using it for a long time. I will have to dig up my old SlackBuild for it, if it goes. Another program I noticed missing was labplot, I might be the only one missing it, I do a lot of analysis of data with it. I haven't checked that much yet, I just happened to notice it was on the "clean-system" list.

BTW thanks are due to both Eric and Pat for the inclusion of Plasma. Hope it gets out of /testing and into the main tree soon.

I fully agree! The Digikam is a software which anyone must have.

We are in year 2020 and almost half of the computing activity in the World is dedicated just for the photos.

Think only how many people are registered on Facebook (I heard that over 1 milliard) or Instagram, and whatever other big social network. And what they do? Mainly, they upload photos and comments on other people photos. Everything is about photos.

Paraphrasing a movie, I would dare to say that Digikam is the new Emacs.

And I believe it is a fundamental tool for any operating system.

I installed vtown on top of upgraded 64-current with kde omitted at installation.
What worked for me is to set my VPN to London and rsync'd in vtown from Tadgy's slackware.uk (!)
and installed it
Quote:
# upgradepkg --reinstall --install-new vtown/deps/*.t?z
# upgradepkg --reinstall --install-new vtown/kde/*/*.t?z
I did paste in the sddm files to /etc/pam.d from my other working alienbob Plasma
as noted by others. Looking ok, but I realize now how much customization I had done to my kde over a long period of time!

I hear you.
The only game I play on my computer is Solitaire.
Windows 3.1 to 7 had the best ever solitaire game. It took a long time to get used to kpatience and now I will have to find a replacement.
Maybe Sbo will pick it up?

I used the ktorrent from vtown and it seems to work, i downloaded one torrent.
But i do see a lot of "Unable to create /home/nille/.local/share/ktorrent/torXXX/torrent: Permission denied" (x=number) and i need to press ok at least a hundred times every time i start ktorrent.
Anyone got any tip how to fix that?
PS. i went from KDE4 to Plasma 5 never installed ktown.
The files /home/nille/.local/share/ktorrent/torXXX/torrent alredy exists as an read-only file.
EDIT:
I fixed it with "chmod 644 ~/.local/share/ktorrent/tor*/torrent" it's the same permissions as the other torrent files that it didn't complain about.

I am Testing it. Hard to believe Patrick did not follow most of what Eric has done. Not even going to begin to say what is wrong with the builds.
Patrick go look at Eric's blog because this build it may run but it is not getting along with display setting or your SDDM.
check back next year. Or build it my self.
With compositor off kwin_x11 using 13 % cpu keeps one of my cores at a hundred percent.
Peace and love.

I've seen that old-school solitaire on 32bit wine years ago, it was just an executable from OEM xp system, worked ok.
Got elders around here who can't seem to let it go, and they've played it for decades.
