KDE locks on exit

Since upgrading to Slackware 10.1, I have a problem with user root, not with any of the other users.

I start in runlevel 3. I then fire up X with a 'startx' command, and the KDE session behaves normally. When I logout, the screen clears, but the mouse icon stays visible. However, the mouse does not react anymore, I cannot switch to a virtual console anymore, and the box doesn't accept ssh logins either. Seems like a complete lockup.

I have managed to switch to virtual console 1 just after clicking the logout button. It says something like this:

Startkde: Shutting down...
Warning: leaving MCOP Dispatcher and still 16 object references alive
- Arts::SampleStorage
[...]
- Arts: MidiManager
warning: leaving MCOP dispatcher and still 237 types alive
AudioSubsystem::emergencyCleanup

In any other session than root, the messages are as follows:
Startkde: Shutting down...
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
startkde: Running Shutdown scripts
startkde: Done.

.xinitrc's are the same for all users.

Any ideas?

Anyway it is not advisable to run kde as root (risk to cause system damage).
If you need root privileges to run a xprogram, try : kdesu <program name>
If you need root privileges to run a console program, try : su, then run the command

True, but I believe that this could have happened with any other user as well. And that it's not a security-related problem.

I appears that it's a user-specific setting that has gone wrong, which I would like to find and which _seems_ related to the upgrade to Slackware 10.1.

I have just renamed my .kde directory and started KDE anew. The lockup doesn't happen anymore, but of course I lost all the settings.
