KDE freeze
Please help...
Just moved from SuSE 9 to Slackware 10. I love it, my "Linux Vocabulary" has tripled in just the two days of partitioning drives, installing, and editing xorg.conf. This is where I think my problem lies.
KDE 3.3.1 locks up up intermittently. Sometimes after three hours, sometimes after 20 min. My Keyboard dies except for the Caps lock and Scroll Lock lights flashing, the mouse won't work and I can't switch to another session. All I can do is power off the machine.
I'm wondering if this a KDE, Slack, or Xorg problem. and wondering if there is a log I can look at to track down what went on just prior to the crash.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
xorg.conf reflects a viewsonic with the correct vert and hor. synchs.
I don't know too much about it myself
but this can be anything
my 2 cents:
run xwmconfig (as user, not as root) and change to gnome or smth, startx & work with it ...
if it doesn't freeze, it's KDE, if it does, it's something else
have you added memory lately?
I've experienced thesame problem as you today but it was because my mem was running in dual channel, and my ram's don't share thesame memory chips, wich can often cause system crashes

Thanks for the reply folks. Came down with the flu, so it'll be a little bit before I can try everything out. I just reinstalled last night because I elected not to install any other desktops other than KDE, and I hadn't had a chance to do to Gnome Dropline. However, I appreciate your replies and I'll get to the bottom of it as soon as I get a little healthier.

thanks for your time folks,
I've been through my BIOS (Gigabyte GA-7 VAX) and I haven't been able to find a PnP setting, I read that the setting needed to be off, and have looked to disable it before but I'll have another look.
Here is the tail you asked for. I can make out some of it but the majority is Greek to me.

I've been having an issue where my 10.0 install will just freeze for about 10 seconds randomly and then is fine, the only app I have running each of the times is gaim, maybe that's the issue for me. Do you have anything consistently running when it freezes?
I had this on a Gentoo machine. Only here, it was overheating that did it (flashing links and all). Are you getting Machine Check Exceptions in your logs?
