A note for those willing to follow Didier's link:

I got this to compile straight off of that website, using copy and paste methods. Here is how I did it.

'rename' requires pysetuptools. You can get it from SBo.

After compiling and installing pysetuptools, I created a subdirectory (under ~/Downloads/SlackBuilds) for rename manually,copied and pasted the contents of rename.SlackBuild, rename.info, README, and slack-desc. I used pico's search-and-replace-all function to remove the '+' from the beginning of each line,then saved. Then I proceeded to download rename from the homepage.

For your convenience, I have posted the necessary files for download. Hope this helps.
