KDE crashes system on logout.

I upgraded the packages to 3.3 a while ago and it works fine until I logout. It just shows a black screen with a mouse pointer. I try alt-ctrl-backspace instead of KDE's logout and it crashes still. No keys seem to do anything at that point

Interesting, I'm getting the same thing with a KDE 3.3/Gentoo machine at school....

Are you guys logged in as root? I had that problem with kde-3.3 but only when I was logged into kde as root which isn't very often.

I don't think it has happened since I changed to kde-3.3.1 which was downloaded from kde.org ./contributions/slackware but I'm not sure if I have logged into kde as root in 3.3.1 either.

Never had the problem as a normal user and I did read somewhere that there might be problems plucking kde-3.3/* out of /current and installing them independently of everything else relevant to kde in /current. I think it was a dependency issue.

Maybe some else can shed more light.

No, I'm just logged in as a normal user. Didn't try root, though.

I had a similar problem with KDE logouts due to conflicts with arts and ALSA. By disabling arts through KDEs control panel, the problem was solved...for me. Just an idea.
