kde crash handler woes
Greetings all--
I am using Slackware 9.1 and have set it up for two users...me and my lady. I use fluxbox and she likes KDE. I am having no problems and up until a month ago, she was doing fine with KDE. But somehow, she must have deleted a hidden file because everytime she quits running something ie: kppp or Mozilla or any other process, the KDE Crash Handler pops up and you have to go through many crash notifications before you can get back to your root window. I switched her over to gnome and all is fine there unless she dials the modem with kppp. Then she gets the KDE Crash Handler notices again. (Fluxbox is fine on my end) I thought if I reinstalled KDE, that might clear up the errors, but I must not have done it right or maybe that is not the solution. On thing I noticed is when logged in as her and executing ps ax, I notice: 1794 ? S 0:00 kppp -session 117f000001000112558746600000019010004_11287818 and I also notice this: 1896 tty3 S 0:00 /sbin/agetty 38400 tty3 linux 1897 tty4 S 0:00 /sbin/agetty 38400 tty4 linux 1898 tty5 S 0:00 /sbin/agetty 38400 tty5 linux 1899 tty6 S 0:00 /sbin/agetty 38400 tty6 linux 1902 tty2 S 0:00 /sbin/agetty 38400 tty2 linux 1996 tty1 S 0:00 -bash the odd thing is, kppp is shown, but she hasn't dialed the modem yet... something else odd is when she logs out of kde, and before getting back to the console, you see the black root window but on top of it is a portion of xawtv ( I had that set up for her to start when ever she started KDE...but it doesn't start automagically now when she logs on....) I am at a loss and she would rather be using kde instead of gnome....any help would be appreciated....thanks! Neil |

re-run that wizard and it should start KDE from scratch, it won't delete her files/data, it will just delete the settings (desktop wallpaper, window decorations, etc ) she had set up, and it will put new settings files back that are missing. |
Thanks for the reply and suggestion, but that did not do the trick. I wonder if I should try
reinstalling KDE again. Like I mentioned above, I tried it but I may not have included all the packages KDE needs. Do you have any thoughts about this plan? thnx Neil |
