KDE command work as user, not root.
 

Why can I type a KDE command at the CLI as user but not as root? For example, if I type "kwrite" at the console as a user, kwrite pops up, but if I type "kwrite" as root, bash says there is no such command.

As it turns out I can't do any KDE stuff as root. I tried to adjust the clock; I entered my password then absolutely nothing happend. Is my Slackware install broken?

Okay, it's some kind of PATH problem. My user PATH is:

/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:/home/mooreted/OpenOffice.org1.1.1/program: /opt/kde/bin/:/opt/www/htdig/bin:/opt/kde/bin:/usr/lib/qt-3.1.2/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.

My root PATH is:

/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin

I set the former PATH in /etc/profile which is supposed to be global. How do I get a path to all my applications as root?

Look for a .profile in your home directory and check how it sets the path.

Thanks for the reply. I give. I have spent 2 years screwing with Linux. I have better things to do with my time then spend hours and days trying to get things to work. I have gone back to Windows 2000 Pro. At least everything works out of the box.

Sorry to hear you're giving up on Linux. I use Windows every day at work. I would rather be using Linux, but Windows keeps bread on the table.
