KDE Applications 18.12.0 has rewritten MTP device support. Does it solve any previous MTP problems?

I'm still on KDE4 on this computer but i finally thinking of upgrading to Plasma 5 if it finally solves some of the MTP oddities that many has had in current.
I looks like it finally fixed a lot of previous bugs.

Has anyone tried it out yet?
The reason that i try to ask and not test myself straight away is that i currently only use an older laptop and it takes a lot of time to compile at test it out.

You can download the Live ISO with Plasma5 on it and try it out yourself.
The https://slackware.nl/slackware-live/...a5-current.iso is 4.3 GB and contains KDE Frameworks 5.50.0, Plasma 5.13.5 and Applications 18.08.1 with Qt 5.11.1.

And if mtp is still giving you issues, look here for a possible fix (have not tried this myself): https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387454#c25

I might try out an live USB i only need to fit it into my schedule and create an persistant live USBmedia.
My main problems are that MTP keeps dropping connection during many tasks and that it's hopefully fixed.

Plasma5 has kdeconnect.

I use kdeconnect to transfer files from my cell phone. it also provides some other functions as well. mtp can be erratic but there is a fix that stabilizes it. rather than dig that out again I have taken the lazy route with kdeconnect.

you will need to download the kdeconnect app from f-droid. it does provides some integration of the phone to your desktop and lightning fast file transfers.

Slackware current already includes kdeconnect-kde-0.8-x86_64-4 and it works with kde4 as well.
I don't see kdeconnect as a solution, it might be usable for transferring some smaller file now and then but it cant replace mtp.
I use my phone as a external hdd between different devices and locations.

You might try pcmanfm as a alternative to Dolphin, then.

I know this isn't what you asked for (kinda like the other posts), but I gave up on MTP a long time ago. I imagine things have changed with MTP somewhat over the years, but I still keep hearing problems, so I haven't bothered trying it again.

I found that adb was much faster in transferring files than MTP (when MTP actually worked). It has relatively simple commands, with adb push being used to push files from the computer to the phone, and adb pull to, well, pull files from the phone.

Code:
adb pull <remote-location>
adb push <local-location> <remote-location>
adb is included in the android-tools program.
